The First Arena brings in concerts, comedians, tradeshows, and family events throughout the year. Public skate, drop-in hockey, adult hockey leagues, and skating lessons are offered on the First Arena’s Recreation arena. The First Arena is the home of the Elmira Jackals Minor League Hockey team.

The Tanglewood Nature Center and Museum aims to lead and support educational and other efforts in our region to achieve a heightened awareness, understanding, enjoyment and caring for our natural environment. Tanglewood includes two hiking trails, Gleason Meadows & Frenchman’s Bluff Trail and Personius Woods Trail. These trails offer distinct habitats and a wide variety of wildlife. Tanglewood also includes a 125-seat auditorium to present environmental education that encompasses the world of nature and our role as a vital link in the web of life. Summer Ecology Workshops and other classes involve children in hands-on, adventure-based learning. Visit the displays of native reptiles and amphibians, including the endangered Eastern Timber Rattlesnake. Stroll through the Nuthatch Gift Shop for the best in nature gifts.
Harris Hill Park

Located on County Route 55a, Harris Hill Park is a scenic area operated by Chemung County. The park has a playground, picnic pavilions, swimming pools, barbecue grills, and a scenic overlook. There is also a recreation area operated by a private company with batting cages, mini-golf, go-karts, and more. Picnic Pavilions are available to reserve for large groups. Have you ever wanted to soar above the earth in a glider? Now is your chance! The Harris Hill Soaring Center offers sailpane rides over the Harris Hill valley. From the first weekend of April to the last weekend of October, sailpane rides are available weekends only from 10:00am to 6:00pm, weather and conditions permitting. During the summer, sailplane rides are available seven days a week from the end of June to Labor Day weekend. Please contact the center to confirm the dates for each summer.

It is also recommended that you contact the center to be sure that conditions are conducive to flight. All of the center’s pilots are FAA certified. Flights take place in either a Schleicher ASK-21 or a Schweizer SGS 2–33 Trainer sailplane.

Located on the Sing Sing Road, Gale’s Equine Facility has been in operation since the fall of 1988. Since that time, owner, Gale Wolfe, with over 40 years of horse experience behind her, has succeeded in the horse business in this area by offering a responsible and caring horse boarding program in addition to a professional riding lesson program. The instructors bring with them a variety of talents and experience, which, in combination with the team effort of Gale’s Equine Facility, can offer nearly every rider and horse, the personalized needs desired.

Omni Equestrian Center is a full service riding stable located in Elmira, New York. We draw clients from Elmira, Horseheads, Corning, Sayre and all surrounding areas of the Southern Tier.
Our equine facility offers riding lessons, horse training and boarding as well as sales. We offer riding lessons to students of all levels, from as young as age 5 to more mature students in their 50′s.
Omni has an indoor 80′ by 160′ arena as well as a 100′ by 200′ outdoor ring. Our 5 expansive pastures on 90 plus scenic acres, located just below Tanglewood, provide an idyllic setting for riding.

Wolfden Farm is the successor to Keerymeade Stables, a full service English equestrian facility located on scenic Route 352 in the Town of Big Flats since 1969. Sabra and Doug Wolf purchased the operation in 2000 and have spent the years since significantly upgrading and expanding the facilities. Wolfden Farm offers complete care for boarded horses and has stall space for 36. Sabra is one of the most respected professional riders and trainers in New York and has over 35 years of experience. A top-notch lesson program is offered, with instruction for the novice through advanced rider. Facilities include an 80′x136′ indoor riding arena, two outdoor riding rings, a heated lounge and over 15 turn-out paddocks, each with available electric service, water and covered shelter.
Rails to Trails
Rails to Trails is a walking trail constructed on an abandoned railroad track bed. This trail can be accessed from Kahler Road South and runs both east and west. The trail runs parallel to and between Interstate 86 and County Route 64 for approximately 1.7 miles. Anyone is free to walk, run, or bicycle the trail. Motorized vehicles are prohibited. There is a parking area where the trail meets Kahler Road South. For more information, contact the Town of Big Flats Department of Public Works at (607) 562–8443 x224.

The Mark Twain Golf Course is located on State Route 14 in nearby Horseheads. Owned and operated by the City of Elmira, the Mark Twain Golf Course is a public 18 hole golf course. Tee times are required 7 days in advance or book your tee times online.
Harris Hill Golf Course
The Golf Course at Harris Hill is a free 3 hole golf course that operates on a first-come, first-serve basis from sunrise to sunset daily. It is located at Harris Hill Park on County Route 55. For more information, contact Chemung County Buildings and Grounds at (607) 737–2833.

The Wings of Eagles Museum (formerly the National Warplane Museum) is located adjacent to the Elmira-Corning Regional Airport. It is an educational institution that was founded to collect, preserve, interpret and exhibit military aviation memorabilia and to fly military aircraft.

The Glenn H. Curtiss Museum, bearing the name of Hammondsport’s favorite son, is located on Route 54, one half mile south of the village of Hammondsport, New York. Dedicated to the memory of pioneer aviator, Glenn Curtiss, the museum contains a priceless collection relating to early aviation and local history. The museum also features a 75-seat theater, large open area for special events and a gift shop. In addition to seeing the museum displays and exhibits, visitors are welcome to visit the Restoration Shop, talk with volunteer craftsman and watch them work on historic aircraft.
